BECOMING A PLAT DIRECTOR / BOARD MEMBER
There are eight (8) plat/board director seats designated for the subdivision - one for each plat. There are two ways to become a Plat Director and sit on the Board of Directors:
One is by ANNUAL ELECTION where the successful candidate is "voted in" for a specific plat and full term. Even numbered plat seats are elected in even numbered election years; odd-numbered plat seats are elected in odd numbered election years. The elected position is held until the next formal election for that particular seat, unless the director resigns or is removed by the board for misconduct.
The second way of becoming a board member is by BOARD APPOINTMENT. Whenever a mid-term vacancy occurs (between elections) the board can appoint a director to fill the seat until the next election for any plat. Application for appointment is made by request with final appointment of any applicant being at the sole discretion of the board. Upon term expiration, the appointee can choose to step down, run as a candidate (see above) or if unopposed, be reappointed by the Board of Directors. All appointments are made and exist at the sole discretion of the board, including the right to not make any appointment.
While many requirements are the same for both elected and appointed seats, procedures are different. For example, a candidate for election must run in the plat he/she resides in, whereas the board can assign an appointee to any vacant plat. An elected board member holds their seat by vote, whereas an appointee holds their seat at the board's sole discretion.
